Oh to be like a child!

I told Emily, our 3 year old, that when we get our taxes back we would take her to the Olive Garden for dinner. Of course, if you know kids you probably know what kind of questions she asked...
What are taxes?
Who do you have to get them back from?

So after explaining how everybody has to pay taxes out of their pay checks and that the government uses the money from taxes for a lot of different things...she was finally satisfied with my explanations.
Well, a few minutes ago she came up to me and told me...
Call the government and tell them to give our taxes back!
I love it!
Kids really do say the darnedest things!

Not too shabby - all things considered!

A few hours after Emily cut her hair, I took a picture on my phone and sent it to Zack. I was not sure what his reaction would be, and I wasn't really sure that I wanted to know. When he called, he said "I guess we are gonna have to shave her head." My thoughts - "UH...NO!" We talked about the possibilities that may be, but I will not have a daughter with a shaved head, if there is another choice. Emily cut it pretty bad, there was at least one chuck that is about 1/4 of an inch long. (Click link if you haven't seen her handiwork!) The lady at Great Clips, was wonderful with her, and did a pretty good job all things considered...

So, we are definately not going to put her hair in some beautiful curls, or a bun with strands curled on the side for the Disney on Ice Princess Classics this weekend, but we will survive!!!
What do you think? Just remember, it will grow back!

I want to CRY!

I was doing the dishes, something that has to be done. It didn't take me a crazy amount of time, just long enough to do the dishes. Usually Natalie (1 year old) will be playing with some toys relatively close to me so that I can see her and she can see me, and Emily watches Dora while playing with toys in the living room. Why should today be any different??? Really, why? For the life of me, I cannot come up with a good reason why this would happen...

Yes, that is right, my little Princess Emily (almost 3 years old) butchered her hair. Her beautiful hair, reduced to...well, you saw the pictures.
I heard Natalie cry and I went to see what was going on. Natalie had my eye liner (my favorite color - bronze) and was coloring herself and the book shelf that I had brought in from the garage. After taking it away from her and picking her up, I wondered how she got into my bathroom - child locks on the doors. Well I looked at my bedroom and the door was ajar, I opened it and SCREAMED. Emily was sitting on my floor with scisors and hair all around her, and she went for another chunck of hair as I was reaching for the scissors. *tear* Maybe it is because she watched her daddy get a hansome haircut yesterday...

Praise the Lord that she didn't get hold of Natalie.

So, have your little ones ever cut their own hair? Or did you as a child?

Smilie Face Snack brings smiles to my house!!

This afternoon, I decided that rather than just making the girls snacks, I would have Emily help me make them. It was a blast! Emily loves to hang out in the kitchen and help with everything - cooking, cutting, cleaning, washing dishes, and more... I am not comfortable with having my 2 year old (almost 3!) use knives, I'm just not. But sinse becoming a Pampered Chef consultant, I learned about a pretty nifty little gadget - my safe cutter, it has a round point and jagged blade (sharp enough to cut apples, cheese, etc. but wont cut hands!!)
So today Emily cut the apple with her safe cutter - and beamed with pride!!
So the snack that we made was smiley face "sandwiches"
Take a piece of bread and spread some peanut butter on it. Use raisins to make eyes and a nose on the bread, then cut an apple into wedges and use the wedges to make smiles!
This was a cute little snack that is healthy, fast, easy, and cheap - but most importantly it was FUN!!!

Disney Store's Dressed Rehersal

Yesterday, the Disney Store had a "dressed rehearsal" (costume party) for all the little princesses, buzz lightyears, nemos, and more. It was fun! We are not going to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, so this was my girls' time to play in their costumes.

Emily is Princess Belle from Beauty and The Beast. Isn't she adorable? The whole time we were in the mall she picked her dress up in front of her and held it out "like the princesses do."

Natalie was dressed up as a mermaid, no it was not Ariel from The Little Mermaid, but she was adorable. Her mermaid costume actually came from Bambini Bliss.

We had a great time, and Emily loved going to "her princess party!"

What are your Halloween plans? Who's dressing up as who?

Things that bring a smile to my face...

Last night when we were eating dinner Zack and Emily were talking, I am really not too sure about what, but when I zoned into their conversation it went something like this:
Emily: Why is it like that Daddy?
Zack: Well baby, I guess you can ask Jesus when you see him.

At this point, I am wondering if I missed some really deep conversation or what...
Emily: Did you get us tickets to see him Dada?
Zack: Honey, you don't need to get tickets too see God, Jesus already bought your ticket a long time ago.

A few seconds went by...
Emily: STOP EATING GUYS...we need to say another prayer. She waited (not so) patiently for us to finish the bites we had, close our eyes, bow our heads, and "make our hands for a prayer"
Emily: Dear God, thank you for Jesus buying us tickets to see you. Amen

I love how freely she talks to God and her child-like faith!!!

This morning, Zack had gone to help Joan get moved, so I didn't really "fix" breakfast. We had some vanilla yogurt and a piece of banana-zucchini bread and a glass of milk. MMM...yummy! Anyways, Emily tends to be a slow eater, so Natalie had already finished her breakfast and was out of the high-chair at this point...I am washing a few dishes and I hear Emily start to cry while pleading with Natalie to "Give it back, it's mine" When I finally see what is going on, Natalie had been standing, watching Emily eat for a minute (at her little princess table) and had taken an opportunity to grab Emily's yogurt and RUN. I mean RUN!!
Natalie just started walking within the last month, but believe me - that girl can go fast! She had both hands holding this little bowl of yogurt and all I saw was this little diaper clad girl RUNNING away laughing.

These events bring a smile to my face and make my heart happy, I hope that you smiled too!

My family!!!

This is an older picture of us - it was taken Thanksgiving 2008. After everyone else had left, we were still at my mom's house and we decided to take a few pictures. In this picture, Emily was almost 2 (literally days away) and Natalie was about 2 1/2 months old...I wont tell you how old Zack and I were!

From day one, Emily has always loved to hold her baby sister. Back in these days it was much easier for her because Natalie didn't move around to much - nowadays it is a comical sight!

I will post newer pictures when I am able to find the box in the garage that has my camera. Hopefully, that will be really soon - I miss taking pictures, it is one of my passions!
